One of the major concerns for people who want to bring about any innovation or change in community, society, institutional setting or business is the resistance that they have to face in order to persuade people to accept change.   Not all people resist change because there is no room for new and innovative ideas. Surveys have shown that all people can be categorized into three classes according to the way they perceive change.

1.    People who resist change and avoid any factor or situation that is associated with any change. These are the type of people who want to remain stable by following a set pattern of rules and regulations and are unwilling to accept anything that may create ripples in their steady life.

2.    The second category involves people who are always willing to accept change and are in search of novel experiences all the time. They jump at any opportunity that offers new experiences irrespective of the consequences and are not afraid of letting change effect their steady lives. These people accept change with a open heart and have also been found to persuade others to let innovation enlighten their dull lives.

3.    The third category involves people who are of the view that change is necessary for maintaining interest in our everyday work but are afraid of taking any initiative or accepting novel ideas and experiences. These people are often found pleading for change and seem quite enthusiastic about introducing new thoughts to different aspects of life, but when push comes to shove, and they are faced with a situation in which they have to choose between innovative or traditional ideas, they ruthlessly reject change as if they belonged to the first category. The resistance behind this is that they lack the decision power and must be kept motivated all the time.

Which category do you fall into?  We are all a little combination of all three but one will be more dominant for you,  and can vary depending on lifestyle, work and relationships.
