Motivation is one of the fundamental and innate characteristic of our life. It creates determination and feelings that one is full of life and has much to achieve. Motivation is the mental approach to any aspect of life that is essential for optimal performance in order to accomplish goals. It has been derived from the word “Motive” which literally means the thing that come from inside and which incites an individual to proceed, to take action and move on.

Research in positive psychology has been conducted for the past 25 years to define motivation and the concepts it is based on. The significant findings reveal that motivation is based on the mental processes instead of external factors. Thus, the internal belief system was found to play a major role in regulating one’s motivation level rather than environmental factors. These internal factors propel and provoke an individual towards certain tasks.

Three fundamental factors were analyzed that influence motivation in positive psychology.

  1. One’s track (the direction which one has to proceed to realize the pathways to the goals).
  2. Having faith, confidence and trust in oneself, to achieve it.
  3. Focusing on the goal and realizing its importance in one’s life.

Having motivation in life clarifies the picture of ambition of life. The mind remains focused, energetic and resolute.  There are many strategies in positive psychology to boost the motivation level and to increase performance rate.

  • Organizing the goals according to priority and discovering the ways to motivate self in order to accomplish them successfully.
  • Self assurance is essential to complete tasks despite any potential barriers.
  • Increasing the motivation and gaining the plateau, it is essential to not to procrastinate.
  • Trying your best to not to give up and to keep reminding yourself that no one can do it better than you can.

Self motivation enables an individual to eliminate roadblocks to achievement.  It is beneficial in many aspects of life. It augments self esteem and cultivates an aspiration towards an action and goal achievement. It also strengthens team building skills and which can be enhanced by surrounding oneself with positive people and becoming engaged with them.
