It’s more important than ever for leaders to take advantage of the benefits they will find in positive leadership. Positive leadership is one effective way to make your business more efficient and thus, produce better results. If you’re not sure this method of management is for you, consider this. In a recent study from ComPsych, they found more American workers are suffering from high stress than ever before. They report:

  • A staggering 68 percent of employees admit they are highly stressed, over tired and feel out of control.
  • 27 percent of American employees feel they undergo constant stress, but they’re able to manage it.
  • Only 5 percent of American employees considered their workplace stress levels as being low.

What’s to blame?

35 percent of workers felt they carried an enormous workload, while 33 percent admitted to encountering ‘people issues’. Another 20 percent said their stress came from their lack of job security. Overall, 44 percent of employees admitted this high level of stress cost them at least one hour of productivity each day. That’s a lot of hurt business…

A common management approach is to tell employees to ‘bear down and tough it out’. Some managers will even go as far as to hint that they should feel lucky to even have a job, and in turn, should not be complaining about anything. This is when managers are blatantly neglecting the strategies and principals of positive psychology in the workplace.

By ignoring employee concerns and suggesting they ‘bear down and tough it out’, managers are only fueling the stress fire that in turn, leaves workers feeling out of control over their work environment. This feeling spirals into anxiety, depression and eventually, low work performance. Employees simply lose their motivation.

Whether it’s in your personal business or in the corporate world, motivation is, in essence, energy for action that will lead us closer to our goals. The level of your motivation will affect everything you do in your life. How you are motivated determines your work efficiency. If you are a salesperson, your motivation determines how many sales calls you are going to make and how successful your presentations are going to be.

Positive psychology is an ideal way for business leaders to learn how to manage bad times, better by focusing on things such as employee performance rewards and praise, as well as focusing on helping your workers learn how to better self-manage. Having a positive, optimistic attitude in your company, regardless of what’s going on, will also go a long way to boosting your business by keeping motivation high.

The goal of modern companies should not be the constant motivation of employees through various financial incentives, but rather through motivation on the emotional level. What would you say if I told you that you could motivate your employees with a snap of your fingers? What would you give to your employees to be motivated even when you are not present? Think how wonderful it would be if your employees could motivate themselves constantly?

If you are a manager of a company, your own level of motivation will determine how you treat people and how successful your team or company is. Motivation also determines how passionate your relationships with your partner and your children are. What if you were still as motivated as you were in the first three months of your relationship? Would things be different? I am sure they would. So, it will not come as a surprise that participants in my seminar on motivation subsequently dramatically change relationships with their families and in the workplace. It’s all because of motivation!
