Are you happy at your work place? Or does it seem intolerable and perhaps inescapable? And are you contended with your life at home? Most people are indifferent towards their work or believe that one cannot derive pleasure from work and one can be moderately happy at home. However, research shows that how one feels regarding his job or work place is influenced by how one thinks about it.

Researchers have also found that happiness at work positively correlate with quality of life. People who enjoy their job and think positively tend to be happy, feel good and are satisfied with their life as compared to people who are overwhelmed and frustrated with their duties and work. Moreover, one’s harmonious home and inspiring family is the heaven where happiness dwells. One can get immense pleasure, satisfaction and comfort from it. Family is the utmost source of motivation and strength.

Although previous research has revealed a positive link between happiness and success at a job,  traditionally happiness is seen a byproduct of success at job. Boehm and Lyubomirsky (2009) also stated that besides all other reasons happiness is the pathway to achievement in the workplace. Thus, it can be inferred that happiness and success are interlinked. Evidence reveals that happy people are more likely to earn bonuses at their jobs, fame in practical life and thus flourish in the world. They spend time with their families, enjoy their lives, help others and thus live healthy and meaning full lives.

People, who are socially interactive, endeavor to get more gratification out of their lives, become engaged in their work and put their maximum time and effort to overcome barriers in their goals. They do well at job as well as home and thus possess more meaningful lives.

Likewise a good home, close supportive relationships with parents, siblings, spouse and children are essential to a happy life. It enhances the subjective well being and sense of contentment of oneself as well as significant others. Even though personality traits and circumstances differ from individual to individual, there are certain pathways to increase happiness at work and home.

The most important intervention to nurture happiness is changing  negative thinking patterns, cognitive errors and maladaptive assumptions to more rational, productive and healthy thoughts. The more an individual will think positively about his work and home, the better and happier he will feel. Secondly, positive interactions with colleagues, boss and other workers also keep us mentally strong and physically fit. Having lunch with colleagues, getting their feedback regarding your job performance and even learning from their suggestions or negative evaluation, lets a person to grow and live healthy life.

Moreover, along with persistent effort at work also try to focus on the positive aspects of the day while forgiving and letting go the negative notes. Even in house too, positive interaction with family members, taking the start of the day on a positive note, having dinner together, working as a team and planning a vacation strengthens bonding and increases happiness.
