Different people have different definitions of success. Some want a big house, a yacht and a Bentley, while others want to dedicate their life to sports, spirituality or making the world a better place. No matter what your definition of success is, you need to develop habits and a mindset that will get you there.

Here are the habits most successful people have in common:

THEY SET GOALS AND PERSUE THEM

Self-made millionaires don’t become rich by accident. They set efficient goals and define success. You can read more about it in my previous article ‘How to set yourself up for success. Make sure you always stay passionate and motivated.

THEY SORROUND THEMSELVES WITH SMART AND KNOWLEDGEABLE PEOPLE

They are aware of the extent of their capabilities and work with experts whose talents compliment theirs. When in doubt, they ask questions, hire coaches and educate themselves.

THEY READ A LOT

Tom Corley, an accountant and financial planner, surveyed 233 wealthy individuals, and 88% said they read at least thirty minutes each day. They mostly read biographies, historical books and educational books. However, scientific studies confirmed that reading novels can also boost your career.

THEY PLAN THEIR DAYS

The most successful people depend on their daily habits and rituals. They know their bodies and they are well-rested. Most of them sleep at least seven hours a day. They take time to exercise and eat healthy foods.

THEY ARE FOCUSED AND PERSISTANT

If you want to succeed, you need to use your setbacks as motivation to try harder.  They know how to focus their attention on a single project at a time. They always focus on the things they want, not on the ones they don’t want or dislike. If you want to become successful you need to stay positive and determined.

THEY WRITE

The most successful people write down their goals and action plans. They also write down their ideas and thoughts.

THEY LISTEN TO OTHERS

They listen to other people and learn from them. Their relationships with employees and co-workers are strong and positive. They limit their exposure to negative people. They respect loyalty and honesty.
